First built in 1762,The Ship and Castle was established as a licensed house in 1831,and is the third oldest pub in Aberystwyth.

The Ship and Castle's name originated from the town's trading connections with Bristol.

There is a ship and castle on the Bristol coat of arms.

In recent years the pub has gained a reputation for its selection of Real Ales.

It is a regular in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, and has won the CAMRA Real Ale Pub Of The Year Award in 2010.

The Ship was refurbished in the summer of 2009 and has retained its old charm.
